Hey you guys….The one thing i forgot to post the other day is that our beloved tune, “Her Vampire Scab” is featured among a very special plethora of Portland artists on the new Greetings From Area Code 207 Vol. 8 Compilation. We’d like to thank our friend, WBLM DJ Charlie Gaylord for making this possible.
This Compilation has been getting wonderful reviews in recent days and rightly so. We’re very honored to be a part of this wonderful scene and call these fellow artists our friends. It should also be noted that proceeds from this go to the St. Lawrence Arts Center. Go to WBLM.com and Bullmoose.com (or any Bullmoose Music Location) and pick yourself up a copy!
Here’s our jam via Soundcloud. Enjoy yer friday!
Greetings….from Miek.
Overdue update: Happy Holidays from HBDC!
Good morning lovelies, and happy holidays!
Looks like there’s much to catch up on. First, we’ll start with a little video taken by The Portland Phoenix from the Portland, Maine CMJ Showcase which we were a part of in October. Thanks to Nick Brennan for catching the action!
We followed our trip to CMJ with a homecoming of sorts, to celebrate my birthday at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland with our buds The Sea Captains, The Departed Krew, and a few other distinguished guests. The gig was dubbed HBDC Presents: St. Miek’s Day, and for those that weren’t there, we wish you had been. What a time! Here’s a link to a pre-show interview we did with Mike Olcott from the Portland Press Herald!
Now we look towards our plans for the winter. First off, we’re honored to have been asked to take part in Home Fo’ The Holidaze as part of WCYY’s Holiday Bizarre! This night is always huge and a lot of fun with tons of your favorite Portland bands getting festive and performing renditions of holiday classics. We’ll be performing alongside Headstart!, Twisted Roots, and Grand Hotel just to name a few. I’d tell you what we have planned, but how much fun would that be?? Just be at The Asylum on December 17th, ok? Okay!
Speaking of our friends at WCYY, our bud DJ Mark Curdo is at it once again with Mark-A-Thon, a 100 hour music marathon where Mark will play ANYTHING, literally, ANYTHING your heart desires in return for donation for The Center for Grieving Children. This is one thing that we highly encourage you to be a part of. Check out WCYY.com for more info on how you can request, watch an undoubtedly exhausted, yet enthused Mr.Curdo, live during his marathon broadcast, and most importantly DONATE to this amazing cause.

And finally, we’ll be wrapping up this amazing year we’ve had where it all began, The Empire, on New Years Eve with our friends Marion Grace and The Mallett Brothers Band, for a special New Years Eve performance. While it breaks our heart to tell you this, we give three cheers to our mate and bass player Nathan Cyr, who will be performing at the awesomeness that is Portland’s State Theatre as part of Clash of The Titans: 60′s VS. 70′s VS. 80′s. We’re all very jealous of Nate, but have no question he will rock the house, and we will bring good tidings for a new year with his fill in, Mr. Johnny Venom of East Wave Radio fame! If you can make it out to both shows, its going to be an unforgettable New Years Eve for sure!

Looking forward into the New Year, we have some exciting things on the horizon, not that i’m going to tell you about any of them in detail. We do plan to take a short break in the first couple months to write our next two records, which we couldn’t be more thrilled about. If there’s anything else, we’ll let you know.
Everyone be safe and happy this holiday season, and we’ll see you all in 2011! Good evening!
All our love,
HBDC
HBDC at CMJ Recap!
Lordy Lordy, WHAT A WEEK!
We start the re-cap last Wednesday. Myself and Nate are first to arrive in NYC to claim our artist badges. Our GPS put us in the wrong part of the city, however, before we realize this, we’re about ten seconds out of the car when we notice a trailer a man tall, dapper man walking out of it. Who is this man you ask? Mr. Tom Selleck. The man, The myth, The mustache. After a very anxious, ten block cab ride, we meet the rest of the band, claim our badges, and sample some of the excellent showcases in Brooklyn. Well, the other guys did, I was sick as a dog, our show that night was canceled as a result, so i stayed in to rest.
Thursday we went to the Artist Lounge/Welcome Center where we all felt like Forrest Gump where he drinks all the free Dr.Peppers at the White House. Again, more show sampling, all of which were amazing.
Friday was the ReThinkPopMusic showcase where we caught STELLAR sets by The Vanguard, Emily Long, The Xcerts, Miniboone, and The Reckless Sons! We had a blast at Crash Mansion and want to thank Bob Berman and everyone at ReThinkPopMusic for having us! Oh and if you’re anywhere near the Bowery, go to Lombardi’s for pizza, its incredible.
Saturday was The Portland, ME Showcase at Trash Bar in Brooklyn. Let me just say this: If you’re from Portland and even thought of making the trip, or a Portland turned NYC native and thought about coming, well I hope you did. The Lucid, Dead Man’s Clothes, Foam Castles, Good Kids Sprouting Horns, Marie Stella, and The Class Machine all sounded top notch, just astounding sets from everyone. We played last and appreciate everyone who stuck around, we feel great about our set and had the best time.
We’d like to thank everyone who donated to the Kickstarter fund to help cover travel expenses (Especially Jess Lipton and everyone at Maine Radio Project who helped us meet our goal at the zero hour!), and all of our friends who put us up at their places, and put up with our shenanigans.
In closing, to any band looking to take things to another level, CMJ is certainly something you should take part in, we certainly plan to again. Its a great time to network and create new relationships, as well as educating your band on the state of the music industry and how to be a success.
Stay tuned, because i’m sure we’ll be posting plenty of sweaty pics from the shows!
Love yaz,
-Miek
